Business Development Officer

Purpose of the position

This is a highly proactive, relationship-driven role focused on building strong industry connections and creating tangible business opportunities.

The Business Development Officer is responsible for actively engaging industry, identifying opportunities, and connecting Indigenous businesses to procurement pathways, partnerships, and growth opportunities.

This role is best suited to someone with a strong sales or business development background who is confident initiating conversations, building networks, and creating opportunities without being prompted.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development and Industry Engagement

·         Proactively identify, approach, and engage new businesses and industry partners

·         Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across industry and community

·         Generate leads and create opportunities for Indigenous businesses

·         Represent Trading Tacks at meetings, forums, and networking events

·         Actively expand and strengthen the program’s industry network

Event Coordination and Delivery

·         Lead the planning and delivery of Meet the Buyer events, workshops and regional engagement activities

·         Ensure events create meaningful business connections and outcomes

·         Coordinate logistics, stakeholder engagement, and post-evet follow-up

·         Travel across Mackay and Isaac regions to support delivery

Marketing and Promotion

·         Develop and manage promotional and marketing content

·         Coordinate social media activity to increase visibility and engagement

·         Promote events, opportunities, and client success stories

·         Strengthen the profile of Trading Tracks within industry

Client Engagement and Support

·         Manage a caseload of Trading Tracks registered businesses

·         Support clients to become industry-ready and confident in engagement

·         Identify client needs and facilitate appropriate referrals

·         Drive active participation in business and industry opportunities

Data Management and Reporting

·         Maintain accurate and up-to-date CRM records

·         Track engagement activity, leads and outcomes

·         Contribute to reporting on program performance and impact

Essential requirements

·         Demonstrated experience in sales, business development or stakeholder engagement

·         Proven ability to generate leads and build strong networks

·         Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills

·         Ability to work independently and take initatitve

·         Current Driver’s Licence

·         Abilit to travel across Mackay and Isaac regions

·         Ability to work flexible hours when required

Desirable

·         Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses or communities

·         Knowledge of procurement, supply chains, or industry engagement

·         Experience in event coordination or delivery

·         Experience using CRM systems
